Abstract

These stand- ards were stated largely in mmerical form, making them easy to enforce, useful in stimulating the school to add an effective library prozam, and simple to interpret. But, increasing dissatisfaction with the rigid- ness of quantitative standards resulted in a comprehensive study by the representatives of these accrediting associations. This resulted in the publication of a set of specifications prepared jointly by the represen tatives of these associations which was known as the Evaluative Criter- ia. (13011-175) The criteria sought to evaluate the school in terms of its objectives. Detailed specifications for quantitative standards made way for descriptive statements of acceptable educational practices. Many of the regional accrediting associations utilized the approach of the Evaluative Criteria (130), and quantitative requirements were re- placed by general statements.
