The spoils: Stories

Casey Pycior, University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Abstract

The Spoils is a collection of sixteen thematically linked short stories chronicling contemporary life in the American Midwest. Characters in these stories deal with issues of masculinity, such as what it means to be a father or a son (or both), and how men often perform as men in their jobs and in their roles as family men. Often, these characters get what they want only to realize what they wanted was in some way false or an allusion, and they subsequently have to live with their sometimes misguided choices.
