Leadership Among Administrative Women in Public Education in Nebraska

VELNA JAN TOWNSEND WEIR, University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Abstract

American education has produced many great leaders in all fields of endeavor. In the history of mankind, it is considered that the United States of America has developed one of the exceptional levels of civilization from the standpoint of standard of living of her people. Yet many educational leaders are unsung and unknown. There is a great national need for quality leaders, especially in education, in order to train the young potential leaders. The shortage of teachers has led to statements such as these "72,000 teachers short" and "half a million new elementary teachers needed by I960." Such shortages indicate that educational leadership must be improved, expanded, and recognized in order to provide the needed educated leaders.
