THE MINISTER'S RESPONSE TO HIS PERCEPTION OF CONFLICT BETWEEN SELF-EXPECTATIONS AND PARISHIONERS: EXPECTATIONS OF HIS ROLE

LAURENCE LE ROY FALK, University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Abstract

Complex societies such as our own contain many varied and some- times conflicting norms. Persons often occupy positions in which they are simultaneously subjected to two or more conflicting norms. An individual, aware that conflicting norms apply to him, may choose a number of activities to eliminate or ameliorate the conflicts. This dissertation examines individuals' various responses to perceived conflict, utilizing role analysis as the conceptual framework. Scientific norms examined are those relating to the ministerial role.
