FINE STRUCTURE OF THE SEMINIFEROUS TUBULE OF THE SWISS MOUSE

PAUL JAY GARDNER, University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Abstract

Electron microscopic studies of spermatogenesis in invertebrates have been reported by a number of investigators. Yasuzumi and Tanaka (1958) observed dimorphism in the spermatozoa of snails while other workers have described nuclear changes during spermiogenesis (Rebhun, 1957), centriole replication (Gall, 1961), and changes in the fine structure of mitochondria and nuclei during spermatogenesis (Kaye, 1958a; 1958b) in the same type of animal. In addition, descriptions of the submicroscopic organization of spermatid nuclei (Dass and Ris, 1958; Gall and Bjork, 1958) of the grasshopper have been published. Yasuzumi (1960) has studied spermiogenesis in the crab, and Moses (1956a) reported observations on chromosomal structure in spermatocytes of the crayfish.
