THE UTILIZATION OF POTASSIUM FROM THE SURFACE LAYERS OF EIGHT NEBRASKA SOILS--A MINERALOGICAL APPROACH

FAWZI M.A.H ABED, University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Abstract

Numerous studies in soil chemistry have been devoted to the proper- ties of soils that influence their ability to supply potassium to plants. In Nebraska, however, little attention has been given to defining specific soil properties responsible for variations in the potassium-supplying power of soils in the state. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the exchangeable and nonexchangeable potassium-supplying power of eight Nebraska soils in relation to the amounts and mineralogical forms of potassium in several size fractions of these soils.
