STORED ENERGY IN IRRADIATED SODIUM-CHLORIDE

JAMES MARION BUNCH, University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Abstract

This paper describes some measurements of the stored energy in sodium chloride crystals which had been fairly heavily colored by exposure to ionizing radiation. Such measurements are of interest because of the insights which they give into the nature of the defects associated with the coloration. Such defects, and the mechanisms by which they are produced, have importance not only from an abstract point of view but also in connection with the technological applications of insulating materials which are exposed to ionizing radiation.

Subject Area

Condensed matter physics
