INSECTICIDAL CONTROL OF CORN ROOTWORM LARVAE IN NEBRASKA

JAMES DERRIL MUNSON, University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Abstract

Corn rootworms (Diabrotica spp) have caused and probably will continue to cause large economic losses to Nebraska farmers. Total losses attributed to insects attacking corn in 1965, 1966 and 1967 were estimated at $31.8 million (Cooperative Economic Insect Report 1966, 1967, 1968). Approximately 80 percent or $24 million of these losses were due to corn rootworms. The losses represent costs for control measures and actual losses due to insect damage. worms cost Nebraska farmers annually about $8.0 million.
