THE USE OF SENTENCES TO FACILITATE TRANSFER OF MEDIATED ASSOCIATIONS WITHEDUCABLE MENTAL RETARDATES

ELLEN SUSAN GOTTLIEB STERN, University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Abstract

The study was designed to investigate one teaching technique: learning sentences linking pictorial stimuli, and the relationship of the technique to the enhancement of mediation in mentally retarded children during paired-associate learning. A three stage mediational (chaining) paradigm was used to investigate this teaching technique and the retarded child's subsequent ability to mediate in a similar situation where specific directions regarding the utilization of sentences were absent.
