Educational Services Provided by Media Centers in Selected-elementary Schools

Abstract

Daring the past decade, much has been written about the concept of "The Instructional Materials Center" or "Media Center" as a vehicle to provide necessary tools for learning and curriculum development. The Media Center organization is a new organization pattern which is yet to be adopted on a large scale. This can be illustrated by the fact that in 1959, a vast majority of elementary schools were without library facilities. Brown, Lewis and Harcleroad statei If only for the purpose of avoiding wasteful duplication of effort by busy teachers it is apparent that every school needs a central collection of teaching materials. Yet, the National Citizens Commission for the Public estimates that at least 50 percent of the nation*s high schools and nearly 90 percent of the elementary schools do not have one.
