THE ROLE OF THE LOCAL SUPERVISOR OF BUSINESS EDUCATION WITH IMPLICATIONS FOR TEACHER EDUCATION

WILLIAM JOSEPH TAYLOR, University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Abstract

The first recorded appointment of a local supervisor of business education by a school system occurred in 1905 when Frederick G. Nichols was named city supervisor of business education in Rochester, New York.1 Although Nichols is believed to be the first person to hold such a position, Tonne has suggested that the origins of formal supervision of business education are not clear and that supervision was probably always present in some form even though it was most likely general in nature.
