IDENTIFICATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CONCEPTS FOR INCLUSION IN AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CURRICULUM
Abstract
In the closing decades of the twentieth century man appears ready to accept the fact that there is a limit to the resources that the Earth can provide. Central to the issue is the number of people the planet can support; that man is an inseparable part of the system and hasthe ability to alter relationships which exist. Social problems relative to pollution, unwise use of resources, and overpopulation are the target of writers, ecologists, and politicians. If education is to provide an avenue for reversing the trend in problems of the environment, the educator of today must accept this new and immediate challenge.
