Abstract

Three basic approaches to the assessment of neuronal functioning associated with the auditory perception of speech and language have been utilized. The oldest and most widely used technique was to "examine" the symptoms of pathology of an assumed central lesion and then at autopsy assess the site and extent of actual anatomical deterioration or trauma to the cortex.
