Influence of Nitrogen Supplementation or Hydroxide Treatment Upon the Utilization of Corn Crop Residues by Ruminants.

WARREN DENNIS LAMM, University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Abstract

Livestock producers are constantly seeking management practices that will lower production costs. One practice that has been used for many years and requires the least investment in equipment and labor is grazing cows on crop aftermath following harvest. In the Midwest corn crop residue has been most plentiful in supply and use. However, producers have begun to utilize other residues, particularly that of grain sorghum where it is widely grown.
