Abstract

It was in the mid-1800's that feed grains vere first transported over distances to market areas in the United States of America. At that time, the problem of buying a given type grain and receiving a different product began to of occur. Grain trade organizations established their own "standards" for inspection of feed grains but it was not until 1916 that the United States Congress established a set of standards and uniform grading procedures for feed grains (Anonymous, 1963).
