THE GOALS, ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE AND FINANCING OF CONTINUING EDUCATION ADMINISTRATIVE UNITS AT SELECTED ACADEMIC HEALTH CENTERS.

ROBERT RONALD MOUTRIE, University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Abstract

Significant changes have taken place in our health care delivery system and in educating health care providers. New curricula have evolved and new relationships have been established between the health care professions. One of the specific changes that has occurred is the emergence of the concept of the academic health -center.The academic health center is a concept which embraces College of Medicine, University Hospital and at least one other health education program into an administrative unit whose purpose is educating health care providers within a University setting. Having only evolved during the past decade, there have been problems with the organisational and administrative relationships between the several health science schools involved, the chief executive officer of the academic health center, and of the University in general.
