A grounded theory of an organized learner: A balanced ecological system

Therese Rosse, University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop a theory about the meaning of the term organization when used to reference learners. A qualitative research methodology that employed a procedure congruent with grounding a theory expedited the study. Ten teachers representing a variety of geographical areas, instructional settings, and experiential backgrounds were interviewed. Additional input was sought from a limited number of experts in fields related to education and through literature reviews. The findings indicated that organized learners operated as a balanced ecological system where their intellectual, physical, and emotional self-regulation permitted them to be effective in solving problems posed by the learning environment.
