Saviors. (Original writing);
Abstract
This dissertation is a novel that examines the lives of four characters--two American relief workers, a Malaysian bureaucrat, and a Vietnamese refugee--who live, temporarily, in a refugee camp for Vietnamese boat people during the late 1970s and early 1980s. By exploring the lives of these characters through fictional means, the novel investigates the nature of power and love played out under the pressures of violent historical processes.
