Abstract

Specific data about how smaller Nebraska feeders are marketing their livestock has not been readily available. This is a report of a survey which was conducted in order to analyze the marketing practices of these livestock feeders and the changes in their marketing practices over a five-year period.

The objectives of this study are (1) to determine whether direct sales of fed cattle to packers is increasing in Nebraska as national trends indicate, (2) to obtain a general picture of the current state of the livestock marketing system for small feeders in Nebraska, and (3) to forecast possible trends for livestock marketing practices in the future.

The survey information will be used to update Extension livestock marketing programs.
