The George Eliot Review 32 (2001)
Dr. Linda K. Robertson reports that a small group of members and friends met for dinner in St. Louis, Missouri in November and it is hoped this might become a regular event. Vast distances preclude members in the USA meeting as a branch but there are at present 33 annual members there and 49 life members. One of the latter, George Griffith delivered a paper on 'George Eliot’s Photographed Face and the Gaze of Public Celebrity' at the conference of Victorian Interdisciplinary Studies Association of the Western United States in October. The parent Fellowship in England would welcome news of the activities of other American members.
