Abstract
This creative project explores the social and personal meanings assigned to fatness and queerness through autobiography. A lyric memoir, it weaves poetry and creative nonfiction together in its effort to reveal my own history and relationship with my body. Through this retelling, I illuminate how systems and beliefs shape how one person experiences trauma and fights for survival. In addition to the creative work itself, the thesis also includes an essay about the intensive study of memoir and poetry I undertook in order to prepare for writing the project as well as key ideas of queer, feminist, and fat theory that the memoir creatively interacts with.
