Abstract

This project focused on translating excerpts from five literary novels from French and Russian into English. The novels translated in this project are Une bête au paradis by Cécile Coulon, La tresse by Laetitia Colombani, Italienne Rhapsodie by Jean-Pierre Cabanes, Зулейха открывает глаза by Guzel Yakhina, and Никито не заплачет by Polina Dashkova. This project is comprised of sixty pages of translation with the first thirty pages being the first three works translated from French to English and the last thirty pages were translated from Russian to English. Excerpts from each novel are ten pages long, with the excerpt of twenty pages from Dashkova’s Никто ни заплачает being the exception. In order to translate these literary works, the use of dictionaries, thesauruses, and research on colloquial, cultural, and historical context was implemented to bring these works to life in English.
