Abstract
My novella, titled Static, is a work of magical realism which follows the main character’s life after she discovers a radio capable of communicating with the dead. The main character, a teenage girl named Fern, takes it upon herself to fulfill the requests of the ghosts she talks to, hoping to send them on to a greater afterlife. She uses the radio as a way to gain agency in a life she feels she has no control over.
This is my first creative work of this length. To create it, I used my experience in creative writing classes as well as Professor Obioma’s instruction. This work represents the fruit of my creative writing education.
