Abstract
In your job search for an entry-level assistant professor’s position, you will find considerable diversity n how schools go about filling a vacancy. A good fact of life is that most search committees usually do not have all the answers, and spend much of their time trying to determine the best way to fill the position. Fear in making a wrong decision is their greatest moderator. Unlike private industry, once a person is hired, he is there until at least tenure time (5 or 6 years). Many departments would rather not hire anyone than to hire someone they are uncomfortable with. The goal of your job search is to remove all doubts that the committee may have about hiring you. based on my experience in looking for a faculty position, the following outline should help guide you through the process of searching for a university position.
