Abstract

Queueing theory focuses on study waiting lines though the use of mathematical or queueing models. Queueing models provide numerous estimates of the steady-state performance measures of a queue for systems which meet the required assumptions. This demonstration, written in Mathematica, allows one to calculate the steady-state expected waiting time in an M/G/1 queue for a range of arrival rates. The M/G/1 queue models the situation with exponential (random arrivals), a general service time distribution, and one server.
