Abstract
This paper examines the importance of primary school libraries in enhancing literacy and preparing students for lifelong learning. The role of school libraries in helping carry out the goals of education and in facilitating lifelong learning are discussed. The librarian or trained library staff are the key to good library service. The role of government in encouraging school libraries is also emphasized.
