Abstract

This study evaluates awareness and utilization of web 2.0 in sharing of knowledge among faculty members of Federal School of Surveying, Oyo. The descriptive survey design was used to describe events and opinions about the situation. Therefore, the population of the study includes Faculty members of Federal School of Surveying, Oyo State. As at 2022, there are fifty-eight (58) Faculty members of Federal School of Surveying. A simple random sampling technique was adopted to give all the respondents an equal chance of being selected for the study. A web-based questionnaire was designed using Google form and generated link was shared with Faculty members of Federal School of Surveying, Oyo. The link was shared on various groups of institutions via WhatsApp and Telegram groups. The frequency table and percentage were used to analyze the collected data. The study found out that faculty members of federal surveying school, Oyo are aware of web 2.0 technologies especially social networking sites (Facebook, Skype, LinkedIn) and Youtubes with only few faculty members aware of Wikis and instant messaging. The study also found out that web 2.0 technologies are mainly use for academic activities and receiving of feedback from students by faculty members of federal surveying school, Oyo. It also found out that poor power supply, high cost of connection tools and poor ICT skills are the major challenges Faculty members of Federal surveying, Oyo encountered in using web 2.0 technologies for sharing knowledge. The study recommends that the authority should organise orientation to faculty members of Federal surveying school, Oyo on web 2.0 technologies that are less used and encouragement should be provided to Faculty members of federal Surveying School, Oyo on proper use of web 2.0 technologies.
