Purpose: Rules and regulation hold the immense significance in library for effective and smooth running of the operation. The objectives of the study are to filter the significant terms on library use rules and regulations visible in library website of Indian universities and European universities.
Methodology: Word or term frequency analysis method is used in this study. ‘TagCrowd’ software is used to collect the terms/words related to library rules and regulations. Top frequency and least frequency terms are highlighted first. Further a comparative study is occurred between the common terms of Indian university and European university through Spearman’s Rank Correlation Coefficient analysis.
Findings: The study is found that, ‘books’, followed by ‘card’, ‘borrow’, ‘membership’, ‘online’, ‘faculty’, ‘access’, ‘research’, ‘material’ and ‘reserve’ are the high frequency terms from Indian universities. ‘Borrowed, ‘card’, ‘staff’, ‘access’, ‘services’, ‘rules’, ‘research’, ‘resources’, ‘collection’ and ‘user’ are high frequency terms from European universities. It is also found that, ‘abusive’, ‘behavior’, ‘drink’, ‘smoking’, ‘navigation’, ‘eatable’, ‘misuse’, ‘threatening’, ‘equipment’ and ‘prohibited’ are low frequency terms from Indian universities, where ‘analysis’, ‘plagiarism’, ‘renew’, ‘order’, ‘chat’, ‘disturbance’, ‘library enquiry’, ‘remotely’, ‘safety’ and ‘interlibrary’ are low frequency terms from European university. The words/terms found from web text mining is clustered into five groups: Library membership rules, library lending rules, rules for use of library resources, help and support service rules and code of conduct in library. The Coefficients table indicates strong positive linear relationship between the ranks of various terms of Indian Universities and European Universities.
Values/ Originality: As the library rules and regulations is a neglected topic over the year, it is focused again for further development of library rules and regulations with the help of collected terms. The collective idea of terms may depict for construction of a linking based model library rules and regulations.
