Abstract

Agriculturists need different types of community information in their day to day life. Community information helps the agriculturists to enhancing the productivity, profitability, stability and sustainability of the farming systems. Public library is the democratic institution which can accomplish the community information needs of agriculturists. This study was carried out to investigate the community information needs of agriculturists in Mysore Region. The present paper attempts to ascertain the background of the agriculturists and their community information needs in Mysore Region Public Libraries. The majority of the agriculturists said that they need always information on preparing the land for the cultivation of particular crops, management of soil fertility, conservation, pest and disease control information. The newspapers, agricultural books, magazines fiction/novels, and almanacs were the most preferred sources of information among the agriculturists. The paper also gives some suggestions and recommendations to the public libraries for improve the community information services for agriculturists.
