Abstract
The aim of this study is to investigate the strategies by which parent institutions can enhance funding approaches to improve service delivery in academic libraries in Nigeria. Utilizing a descriptive survey research design, the study involved 88 library staff members from seven federal university libraries situated in the North Central region, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja-Nigeria. Given the manageable and accessible nature of the population, no sampling method was employed. Data collection utilized three instruments: questionnaires, observation checklists, and structured interview schedules devised by the researcher. Quantitative analysis of questionnaire data utilized mean and standard deviation to address research inquiries, while Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was employed to assess null hypotheses at a significance level of 0.05. Qualitative analysis of interview schedule data involved discussion, and decisions regarding collected data were based on a four-point rating scale derived from real numerical limits. The key findings of the study underscored various strategies aimed at improving funding approaches by parent institutions to enhance service delivery in federal university libraries in North-central Nigeria. These strategies included the proper implementation of library policies and programs by parent institutions, genuine innovation and advocacy efforts to secure alternative funds for library performance, the provision of current and relevant materials to the library, enhancement of internally generated revenue, and ensuring proper subscription to internet connectivity, among others. Analysis of null hypotheses indicated no significant variance in mean responses among library staff regarding these strategies. The implementation of these strategies has the potential to substantially increase funding for university libraries across the region. It is essential for parent institutions to prioritize libraries as integral components of the university structure. Furthermore, universities in North Central Nigeria should actively seek collaboration with funding agencies, both locally and internationally, to solicit support for the development of library facilities and resources.
