Abstract
Photo archives are valuable sources of information with historical and cultural significance and, therefore, need to be preserved. However, the fragile and vulnerable physical condition of photo archives and the limited adequate storage facilities pose particular challenges for regional archival institutions like the Library and Archives Service of Bantul Regency (DISPUSIP Bantul). To address this issue, DISPUSIP Bantul has undertaken efforts to digitize photo archives to preserve the information they contain. This research aims to understand the process of digitizing photo archives undertaken by DISPUSIP Bantul. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques through interviews and purposive sampling. The research results show that digitizing photo archives is carried out according to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) issued by the Head of the Bantul Regency Library and Archives Service. The digitization process consists of four stages: selection of archives, scanning, registration, and re-storage with watermarks. However, several obstacles to implementing the digitization process are a shortage of human resources, a lack of equipment and infrastructure, and a lack of dedicated room for digitization activities.
