Abstract
The research productivity of academic staff measures their status in the academic world. As a result this study investigated use of online information resources and academic staff research productivity. A survey research design was used, in which the population consist of academic staff in public universities in Ogun State. Proportionate random sampling technique was used to select 158 respondents that represented the sample size. SPSS was used for data analyses, using percentage, means and standard deviations. The study revealed that the respondents use online journals for article writing ( =3.56; std dev. =0.626); online databases for searching for articles ( =3.50; std dev. =0.670); institutional repositories for research writing ( =3.50; std dev. =1.673); online news sources for seminar paper presentation ( =3.18; std dev. =0.538). Test of norms for frequency use of online information resources by the respondents was moderate(“2.75”). And there is a significant positive relationship(r =.260 p < 0.05) with use of online information resources and research productivity of academic staff in public universities in Ogun State. Challenges of irregular power supply, high cost of subscription to online databases were faced by the respondents. It was concluded that research productivity of the academic staff was moderate and recommended that academic staff should intensify more effort to improve their research output to enhance their rating among the global academia.
