Elegy for September
Document Type Article
Abstract
for soprano sax, harp, strings Originally conceived for lute, then arranged for harpsichord. The first section evolves through a veiled opening to a more agitated middle part before a return to the spirit of the beginning. The piece concludes with an arrangement of The Silver Swan, by Orlando Gibbons. Begun in early September, 2001, as a memorial to the composer’s father, the Elegy unfortunately assumed more universal relevance with the unfolding of the tragic events of 9/11 .
