Abstract
Capital punishment: one of the most debated topics in the United States criminal justice policy. A system that has been called arbitrary many a time due to prejudice, discrimination, and innocence in death row. Some critics argue that the death penalty is applied in somewhat of an erratic fashion; two different offenders who commit the same crime may receive immensely different sentences like life imprisonment or death. There have been executions of innocent people, and there are people who managed to get free because they were wrongfully convicted.
