Abstract

The 2025 NOU Fall Field Days were held in Ogallala on September 26–28, with about 80 in attendance. The programs were held at the Quality Inn, and the meeting was planned by Boni Edwards, Dave Cunningham, and Paul Pearson. Field trips were led by Tobin and Keegan Brown, Jacob Cooper and UNK ornithology students, Joel Jorgensen and Stephen Brenner, T. J. Walker, and Thane Dinsdale. Destinations included various sites around Lake McConaughy, Lake Ogallala, Cedar Point Biological Station, Sutherland Reservoir SRA, Ash Hollow State Historical Park, Crescent Lake NWR, Arthur Co and various Sandhills lakes. The total species count was 148, including Red-necked Phalarope, Sabine’s Gull, Great Black-backed Gull, Common Tern, Neotropic Cormorant, Black-billed Magpie, Sprague’s Pipit, and Pine Warbler. We were fortunate to have Dr. Jacob Cooper and several of his UNK students available to present papers on research they have been working on recently. Keegan and Tobin Brown presented an introduction to the Nebraska Birding Discord server, which will facilitate communication among birders. It is an online messaging platform that has channels for birding discussions, photo/audio sharing, and rare bird alerts. The app must be downloaded and an account created before use. A silent auction was held both evenings.
