Abstract
Past literature has shown that expectancies of success influence how an individual behaves in certain situations (Donat & Sassenroth) and drives motivation and action. GESS is also related to achievement (Weiner, 1985). The current study looks at self-confidence, locus of control, frequency of self-reinforcement, family type raised in, family income, and gender and the relationship they share with expectancies of success. The proposed study used data from 391 undergraduates at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln and nested models were compared against a full model of predictors of expectancies for success, including a personal and a determined model which were then compared to each other. The full model performed better than both reduced models and the personal model performed better than the determined model.
