The department is involved in research, teaching, extension and diagnostic service throughout Nebraska. We focus primarily on infectious diseases, molecular/cell biology and biomedical sciences. The Department has faculty, staff, and facilities located at two sites in Nebraska. The largest component of the Department is on the East Campus of the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, NE. The Great Plains Veterinary Education Center (GPVEC) is located five miles west of Clay Center, Nebraska. Fourth-year veterinary medical students from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University travel to the GPVEC for part of their training in food animal medicine. The GPVEC faculty are also active in extension and research activities emphasizing beef cattle.
