Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the nature of the ninth grade mathematics program existing at present in the accredited public secondary schools in the State of Nebraska. This involved (1) identifying the titles of the courses being offered at this level and the major patterns of offerings in the schools, (2) discovering whether a mathematics course was required for all students at the ninth grade level, (3) identifying teacher assignments and average class size in ninth grade mathematics, (4) identifying the textbooks being used in these courses, (5) determining the degree to which the teachers of ninth grade mathematics utilize various methods in teaching their classes.
