Abstract

The Bobwhite Thesaurus was assembled with the belief that it  would make the voluminous literature more accessible. Publications  on the bobwhite have become so numerous and have been published  in so many different places that today's bobwhite researcher is seldom able to conduct the library search required to unearth all pertinent material. This results in failure to acknowledge and use prior  findings.

An effort has been made to seek out and index all publications  issued prior to 1983 that contain information on the bobwhite. All  publications found have been included irrespective of their apparent  worth excepting anonymous papers. Publications which were subsequently supplanted with more thorough investigations by the same  author or authors were nevertheless included. Parts of publications  based wholly on the literature and which fail to make a new contribution were not indexed. For the most part, the user can approximate the worth of a publication by the credibility of its authorship  and by whether it was published in an outlet where manuscripts  were refereed and edited.
