Abstract
In January 2022, our team began conducting research based on a prompt provided to all Nebraska Business Honors Academy (“Academy”) senior students by Nelnet, Inc (“Nelnet”). This consulting project involved researching markets of interest for Nelnet and forming strategy recommendations that were ultimately presented to a panel of Nelnet executives. The details of the research we conducted and the resulting recommendations cannot be disclosed here due to the terms of an agreement we signed at the project’s outset.
At a high level, the project involved analyzing the markets of interest Nelnet shared with us and exploring potential plans of action for the company that leverage Nelnet’s existing core competencies. After deciding on a course of action, we conducted additional industry- and opportunity-specific analyses, using standard business strategy models such as SWOT Analysis and Porter’s Five Forces. We also created financial projections based on the data we acquired through online research. The final output of the project was a written memorandum as well a 15-minute presentation followed by a Q&A from Nelnet executives.
