Abstract

The Office of the City Clerk serves as the primary point of contact for individuals seeking to do business with the City of Lincoln. Many interactions begin with acquiring a permit, from a holiday lights display to opening an outdoor café. A lack of a centralized permit location and manual processes causes customers and City Clerks inefficiencies. The City of Lincoln wanted the new platform to become the foundation for a final product that would simplify the review process. The team was tasked with improving the current permitting process prioritizing efficiency and process visibility. The team developed an online platform consolidating permit submission and approval for customers and City Clerks while providing insights into where permits are in the review process. Automating several manual tasks would free up staff time, add transparency to the review process, and reduce the risk of applications being delayed.
