Abstract

The present study shows the trend of collection, services, facilities, staff, information security system and digitization in the Central Secretariat Library (CSL), New Delhi, a library under the purview of Ministry of Culture, Government of India from 2010 to 2020. Data has been collected with the help of questionnaire followed by consultation of annual reports of Ministry of Culture. Findings of research shows that CSL has witnessed a significant growth and development in various horizons of the field of library with the advancement of time. It has been found that a collection of more than 1 lakh which includes books, Government publications, reports and gazettes has been added in CSL during 2010 to 2020. Presently, the total collection maintained at CSL is 831000 approximately. The library also offers various services and facilities such as reference services, microfilm consultations, document delivery etc. to its users. CSL is well equipped with modern day ICT tools and most of its services are automated during 2017-18. The library is presently functioning under the supervision of 18 professional staff. CSL has extended its library membership to government servants, Ministers, Politicians, academicians and research scholars. The library is equipped with information security systems such as CCTV, RFID, alarm systems, user smart cards etc. CSL is one of the prominent libraries in India which has maintained significant collection and services to fulfill needs of its users. The present study will allow CSL to have a glance on their current status and accordingly bring improvements in its functionality to be a better knowledge center at par with the most recent requirements.
