Abstract

The aim of this study was to ascertain how the use of chemistry collections in university libraries in Calabar, Cross River State, and Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, related to information resources indices. To direct the investigation, five distinct goals, five research questions were developed. In this study, the survey research design was used. In the investigation, the cluster sampling technique was applied. The population was made up of 297 individuals from both study areas, with 152 registered users of the University of Uyo's chemical library and 145 registered users of the University of Calabar's chemistry library. Data for the study were gathered using a forty-item questionnaire that the researcher created and titled "Information Resources Indices and Utilization of Chemistry Collection questionnaire (IRIUCCQ)." Three faculty members from the Faculty of Education validated the tool. Using Cronbach's alpha, a reliability coefficient of.79 was determined. The generated data for the study were analyzed using means. The study's conclusions showed a substantial correlation between the use of the chemistry collection in the university libraries in Calabar and Uyo, as well as information resource indexes. In light of the study's findings, it was determined that library patrons can only get the most enjoyment from using high-quality chemical resources that are pertinent to their information needs. Based on the findings, it was suggested, among other things, that chemistry librarians should make an effort to obtain those pertinent and in-demand chemistry collections in order to enhance user satisfaction, and that chemistry collections should be updated on a regular basis to ensure users' utilization.
