An overview of the cestode (tapeworm) order Cathetocephalidea Schmidt and Beveridge, 1990, parasites of the spiral intestine (also called the spiral valve) of sharks. Includes a discussion of their main morphological characteristics, the species in the order, a description and summary of a representative species, Cathetocephalus resendezi Caira et al., 2005, and life cycles.
