Abstract
An overview of the cestode (tapeworm) order Lecanicephalidea Hyman, 1951, mainly parasites of the spiral intestine of batoid elasmobranchs, with worldwide distribution. Includes discussion of their main morphological characteristics, taxonomy, description and summary of a representative species, Aberrapex senticosum Jensen, 2001, and life cycles. These worms are remarkably diverse in their morphology.
