Abstract

An overview of the acetabulate cestode (tapeworm) order Phyllobothriidea Caira et al., 2014, parasites of the spiral valve or spiral intestine of sharks and occasionally batoid rays. Includes a discussion of their main morphological characteristics, a description and summary of a representative species, Paraorygmatobothrium prionacis (Yamaguti, 1934) Ruhnke, 1993, taxonomy (much of which is yet uncertain), and life cycles.
