Abstract

El Área Intermedia es el espacio geográfico que incluye parte de la costa caribeña de Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panamá, Colombia y Venezuela. Las culturas que se desarrollaron en este territorio que comunica las dos grandes regiones precolombinas que son Mesoamérica y la Zona Andina enriquecieron su cosmovisión a través de la interacción producida por el intercambio comercial y las migraciones. En este territorio fronterizo que comunica el norte y el sur, se desarrollaron culturas con gran conocimiento en el trabajo de diferentes materiales cerámicos, líticos y en especial metalúrgicos, llegando a desarrollar un alto nivel de conocimiento técnico y estilístico en la elaboración de sus piezas, que tenían diferentes usos domésticos y ceremoniales. En el presente trabajo el objeto de estudio son las representaciones figurativas y el estudio iconográfico y simbólico de seis objetos arqueológicos que se encuentran en el anexo de Montcada i Reixac del Museo Etnológico y de Culturas del Mundo (MUEC) de Barcelona. Este Análisis tendrá en cuenta la cosmovisión y ritualidad en las culturas del Área Intermedia que crearon dichos objetos, relacionados a través de la funcionalidad, el estilo, la iconografía y la historiografía.

The Intermediate Area is the geographic space that includes part of the Caribbean coast of Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia and Venezuela. The pre-Columbian cultures that developed in this territory connecting Mesoamerica and the Andean Zone enriched their cosmovision through the interaction arising from trade and migrations. In this border territory that connects North and South, cultures developed that had a deep knowledge regarding the working of various materials – ceramic, lithic and particularly metallurgic – a domain in which they came to develop a high level of technical and stylistic know-how in the elaboration of both domestic and ceremonial artifacts The present work aims to study the figurative representations and the iconographic and symbolic study of archaeological artifacts, kept in the Montcada i Reixac annex of the Barcelona Museu Etnològic i de Cultures del Món (MUEC). We will approach the reading and symbolic interpretation of the images of the culture that created these objects through a historiographic, iconographic, stylistic and comparative study. For this we will bear in mind the functionality for which they were made, associated to their way of understanding and managing their social, religious and political organization, through their worldview and rituality.
