The POD Innovation Award lamp, created by John Andrews in 1987 as he was the recipient of the second award (Linc. Fish won the first). At that time the job of the awardee was to find or make a lamp for the next person. That custom apparently stopped with Andrews as this lamp has been used ever since except for the 2011 conference when it had been damaged in shipping. The lamp is a touch lamp and the awardees traditionally activate the lamp during the ceremony as a sign of a "Bright Idea," the original name for the award. Todd Zakrajsek repaired and updated the electronics sometime after 2000.
